Fly into SJO or LIR

San José (SJO) is the most common gateway. From SJO you can drive, take a shuttle, or hop a 25-minute domestic flight to Tambor (TMU) followed by a ~1 hour drive to Santa Teresa. Liberia (LIR) works too — around 4 hours by road, no ferry needed.

Driving from San José

Take the scenic route: drive to Puntarenas (~1.5 h), board the Naviera Tambor ferry to Paquera (~70 min — book ahead in high season), then drive Paquera → Cóbano → Santa Teresa (~1.5 h). A 4x4 is strongly recommended: the last stretch is unpaved, dusty in dry season and muddy in green season.
